Who Are We?

The Glenrothes Discovery Society is a locally owned business that aims to put Glenrothes back on the map. We believe that Glenrothes and its beauty has gone under the radar for far too long and deserves to be seen by visitors from far and wide. We offer different experiences including tours and scavenger hunts that showcase the best bits of Glenrothes and Riverside Park, where most of our experiences are based. All the money we raise from the tours and sales in our information centre goes straight back into the business so we can expand our horizons and continue to grow. We believe that Glenrothes should be seen by everyone, that’s why we try and keep our prices as low as possible for our tours. However, we do have a small gift shop within the information centre so make sure to have a wee look if you stop by! We look forward to seeing you and showing you what Glenrothes has to offer!

Explore our amazing wildlife

Glenrothes’ wildlife is one of the most attractive features of the town. With a group of unique residents that keep people coming back.

Glenrothes’ hippos were brought here in the 70s and have since been free to roam in Riverside Park. The hippos have become a beloved part of the community and are often seen approaching residents. As the hippos have been living in Glenrothes so long they have become accustomed to human interaction and are quite happy to be approached, but we advise you always keep a safe distance as they are wild animals after all. You will have the opportunity to see the Hippos up close and personal on our tour, which is a great way to see the animals with a member of our team who is well trained on animal safety.

Head out on a free scavenger hunt!

Our Scavenger Hunt is one of our most popular experiences here at The Glenrothes Discovery Society. You can pick up your free scavenger hunt pack from our information centre which includes; a guide, checklist, map and map key. This is a great activity for the whole family which takes you on a tour around Riverside Park, passing by some of the best attractions along the way. Noticeboard

Here we will post any important updates to the tours or business hours.

04/04/25- We are devastated to inform you all that our beloved Beer Tree has been vandalised. At some point over the weekend someone has taken the beer can off of the tree and shredded it. Why someone would do such a horrid thing is beyond us and we are all devastated. This was a beloved part of our tour and the Glenrothes community and we know going forward that the tours won’t be the same without it. However, there is a silver lining. In true Glenrothes fashion the community has come together to create a new masterpiece for the town. The Beer can has now been relaced with an Irn Bru can as a memorial to the old landmark. Going forward we will still be visiting the ‘beer tree’ and we hope you will all still enjoy it as much as the original.

RIP Beer Tree- 2020-2025
